about

I've been a fan of Nick Drake for years, ever since hearing his debut album, "Five Leaves Left". It's been a dream of mine to pay tribute to him with my band, and now that dream has come true! Instead of recording various songs from Nick's catalog, I decided to pay tribute by recording his entire debut album, Five Leaves Left, song by song, in the JPQ's own, inimitable style!

I created a multi-media website for the album that features extensive liner notes, song-by-song essays, video, audio and photos chronicling the entire making of the album. You'll find it at fiveleavesleft.jasonparkerquartet.com

The JPQ is a jazz band from Seattle, WA. Earshot Magazine called us "the next generation of Seattle jazz". This is our 4th CD (you can get all the others here on Bandcamp).

Joining us on a number of tracks on this CD are very special guests Michele Khazak on vocals and Cynthia Mullis on tenor sax and flute. Michele is the perfect singer to tackle these songs, as she's a huge Nick Drake fan and shares a similarly haunting and emotional vocal style. Cynthia has been playing regularly with the JPQ for a couple of years now and recorded on our last CD as well.

The CD was made thanks in part to 148 Kickstarter backers, without whom it wouldn't exist. The JPQ extends a huge thanks to all who participated in the campaign.

It was also recorded with a grant from Jack Straw Productions.
