about

The Seattle jazz scene is bursting with talent and is a true hidden gem of the jazz world. Seattlites know how special it is, but word is only now starting to get out to the rest of the world. I decided to shine a spotlight on some of the marvelous composers we have here in The Town with "Homegrown", the fifth album from the Jason Parker Quartet.

The album features tracks by Josh Rawlings, Thomas Marriott, Cynthia Mullis, Jeremy Jones, Hadley Caliman, Marc Seales, Troy Kendrick and myself. Many other tracks were submitted for consideration (see the list below), but it's these 10 tracks that made for the strongest album.

I'm incredibly proud and honored to be able to record and release this wonderful music from my friends and colleagues in the Seattle jazz scene. I'm also thrilled that my working band has now been together for 8 years and is still going strong. Many thanks to Josh Rawlings, Evan Flory-Barnes and D'Vonne Lewis for sticking by me and contributing so much, and to Cynthia Mullis for being the 5th Beatle.

Thank you to all the composers who submitted their compositions for this album. Your work is what makes this album special, and what makes the Seattle jazz scene so remarkable. I’m proud and honored to call you friends and colleagues. In addition to the 10 songs included here, we had the opportunity to play songs by Bill Anschell, Gregg Belisle-Chi, Ryan Burns, Tim Carey, Brad Gibson, Nate Omdal, Michael Owcharuk, Bill Patterson and Joe Walker. While they did not make it on the album, they were all a joy to learn and will be a part of the JPQ book going forward.

Invaluable support for the project provided by The City of Seattle Office of Arts & Cultural Affairs, 4Culture and Artist Trust.
